What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump today meets at the White House with the President of Poland.

What the White House Press Corps is Talking About:
There will be a joint news conference with Trump and President Andrzej Duda at 2:15 p.m. ET, a chance to ask questions of the US President about a range of topics, from China tariffs to refugee numbers and, of course, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh Testimony Scheduled for Monday:
The woman accusing Kavanaugh of assault, Christine Blasey Ford, will have a chance to tell her full story in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee during a public hearing tentatively set for Monday on Capitol Hill. Kavanaugh would testify as well. The entire process has reached unprecedented status, as just a few days ago, it was all but a done deal that Kavanaugh would get the votes needed to become an associate justice on the Supreme Court. Amazingly, inspired by the #MeToo movement, Blasey Ford's allegations have become a lightning rod of a hold-up, with everyone taking a side -- but most on both sides of the aisle agree a hearing to learn more is desperately needed to move ahead.

The White House Take:
Kavanaugh spent nine hours hunkered down yesterday at the White House, going over testimony strategy, and he was spotted going back inside the EEOB this morning. Trump is firmly behind Kavanaugh's confirmation, though he has been uncharacteristically quiet on Twitter about the whole thing.
How It's Playing in Bethesda:
I know how small the Maryland towns of Bethesda and Chevy Chase are because I, like Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh, grew up there -- and I still live in Bethesda -- and people are talking. This Politico piece is a good read because it's highly accurate and it kind of sums up the incestuous circles of social traditions and rituals of the DC 'burbs.

The (Pretty Much) Definitive Profile of Sarah Sanders:
Love her or hate her, the new New Yorker profile of White House press secretary Sarah Sanders is interesting and insightful. It's long, but it details her past work and rise to her current post -- and it also, I think, gets right her ethos as press sec. Here's a snippet: "Sanders often appears to mistake journalism for stenography or cheerleading -- she sometimes tells the media what to 'celebrate,' such as the state of the economy. Sometimes, when confronted with the fact that reporting is often adversarial, she reflexively mentions courtesy, seemingly not understanding that journalism is an exercise in democracy, not etiquette." I mean, sounds about right to me. There are also some good fun facts, like that Sanders lived in the same bedroom that Chelsea Clinton did when her father was governor of Arkansas.

Trump Declassifies Documents:
Which seems like a big deal. The President announced yesterday that he is removing classified status from several documents relating to the Russia investigation, including text conversations involving ex-FBI Director James Comey, ex-former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI agent Peter Strzok, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page and Bruce Ohr, a current Justice Department official.

Meanwhile, James Comey was on Vacation Like Your Dad:
Comey and his wife just took what he called their first "empty nest road trip," and he posted about it on his Instagram. Most of the pics are the sort that your parents send you when they're on vacation, shots of Dad standing in front of things. A sampling, if you will:

Need Some Good Vibes Today?:
Try this video of Meghan Markle laying eyes on her wedding dress on the day before her wedding to Prince Harry. It's part of a new documentary, and it's cute. Here's her face as it happens:

How Great Was That Proposal Though:
I hate to give it too much credit, but it kind of restored my faith in humanity for a hot second? If you didn't see it, the winner of one of last night's Emmy Awards played the audience -- and his girlfriend -- right into the perfect marriage proposal. Thankfully, she said yes

Emmy Awards Best-Dressed:
Overall, I thought last night was the best-dressed awards show I'd seen in years. Seriously. People turned out. So, bravo to that. My top three were Jessica Biel in white Ralph & Russo, Keri Russell black feathered and sequined Zuhair Murad (this is also the dress from last night that I personally would have worn), and Thandie Newton in pretty pink Brandon Maxwell.

... And Worst-Dressed:
Sorry, but Laura Dern's lace bustier shirt dress situation by Thom Browne was not good.

P.S.: One interesting note on last night's Emmy Awards: Not once during the opening, the presentations, nor the acceptance speeches, did anyone utter the words "Donald Trump." Not one reference to the President during the entire program.
